June 2013, Tunbridge Wells, Kent The winner of the £50,000 prize fund for West Kent’s entrepreneurial initiative, Young Start-up Talent 2013, was announced at an impressive show at Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells on Monday 10th June 2013. Mohammad Abusayed from Tunbridge Wells, who is currently just 18 years old and studying part-time at K-College in Tonbridge, was announced as the winner of the 2013 project with his business SMT Trading UK Ltd – a company that was formed in January of this year which hire’s and distributes linen and hot towels to restaurants, hotels and banqueting halls.

June 2013, Crawley, Sussex Sam French of Sam’s Kitchen won the prize fund from Young Start-up Talent Gatwick Diamond 2013 earlier this year after competing amongst many other young entrepreneurs in the area.
Sam’s business is called Sam’s Kitchen who produce fashionable teatime treats and specialise in hand iced gingerbread men. Sam wowed the judges at the Young Start-up Talent final when he pulled out the latest issue of Vogue showing his gingerbread men wearing the latest colours and styles. Sam first came up with his business idea on a trip to Selfridges in London when he saw their gingerbread houses and thought that he could do better.

May 2013, Tonbridge, Kent Five young entrepreneurs competed and pitched their business ideas in the hope to win the £50,000 prize fund at the Dragon’s Den style final of Young Start-up Talent at K-College in Tonbridge. A surprise visit by Michael Fallon MP and Government Minister for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) dropped by to wish the five well before they presented their business to the panel.

The winner will receive a £50,000 prize fund of business products and services that includes mentoring, accountancy, legals, marketing, branding, printing, laptop and IT support to name a few.

The practice has recently won several such clients, including Norplan Hydropower Limited, a new subsidiary of Multiconsult, one of Norway’s leading engineering consultancy companies. Norplan Hydropower Limited are now outsourcing the whole of their bookkeeping and accounts department function to the accountancy practice, following a recommendation from the top four firm responsible for the Multiconsult group audit.

April 2013, Horsham, Sussex Cyclists injured by pothole accidents are being urged to do their groundwork before seeking compensation.
Potholes are endemic to Britain’s roads now, and while car and vehicle drivers may suffer mechanical damage from them, they are unlikely to be seriously hurt, says personal injury specialist Ian Huckstepp.
Cyclists and motorcyclists however are at far greater risk of coming a cropper from potholes, with the potential of suffering life-changing injuries, he cautions.

March 2013, Brighton, Sussex Four young entrepreneurs competed for the £50,000 prize fund last Tuesday at the Dragon’s Den style final of Young Start-up Talent Brighton.
It was touch and go whether the Den would be open after the heavy March snow fall. The odds were against but everyone pulled together, the ‘Den’ managed to open – not as originally planned at City College, as this had to close due to the adverse weather conditions. The Jury’s Inn Hotel stepped in at the last minute due to a cancellation in one of their conference suites. All of the judges, finalists, local MP for Hove - Mike Weatherley and production team from SeeThat committed to the event despite the weather.
March 2013, Tunbridge Wells, Kent Young Start-up Talent which carries a fabulous prize fund of £50,000 worth of business products and services donated by the 30 judges and sponsors in the local area has been out and about visiting sixth form and college students in the area to inspire and encourage 16-25 year olds to have a ‘can do’ attitude towards business.
The team has already visited a number of schools such as Tunbridge Wells Grammar for Girls, Kent College, K-College and Wrotham School to conduct workshops and assemblies with many more school and college visits planned over the next month across the region.

February 2013, Crawley, Sussex The final round of judging has now taken place in the Gatwick region of the entrepreneurial initiative, Young Start-up Talent. The winner of the £50,000 prize fund will be announced at an impressive show at the Lingield Park Marriott Hotel and Country Club on the evening of 28th February 2013.
The overall impression from the judges was that the standard of entries was very high from all six finalists this year. “I was most impressed with the detail covered in the business plans and forward thinking. It was fantastic to see the finalists rise to the challenge of presenting to the very daunting judging panel of eight businessmen and women” commented Matt Tyson – Judge and Director of Richard Place Dobson.
