Natalie Evans wins Young Start-up Talent Brighton Region 2014 scooping £50,000 prize

The winner of the £50k Young Start-up talent prize fund for Brighton was announced earlier this week as 24 year old Natalie Evans with her company 42Juice which produces fresh organic juices made up of 100% raw, cold-pressed fresh fruit and vegetables to provide instant nutrient and vitamins, 42 Juice offers cleanse and detox packages.

The evening was held at Brighton Racecourse where founding partners of the entrepreneurial initiative, Matt Turner and Lorraine Nugent hosted the showcase event which brought together a host of the business community, heads of education, previous contestants of the initiative and recent finalists.

Natalie said “I thought the process was amazing and invaluable to my business. I'm so excited. It will be incredible; I am looking forward to working with the team and seeing what will evolve.”

Natalie has walked away with £50,000 worth of business products and services donated from 30 of Brighton’s leading businesses which serves as a fantastic starting point to develop a business.

Karim Mohamed of Mayo Wynne Baxter Solicitors and one of the judges commented “I am delighted with the product and wish Natalie all the success for the next year and look forward to supporting her in her venture.”

Another judge – Dan Simpson – Partner at Hartley Fowler Accountants added “I was thoroughly impressed. It was an incredibly difficult decision as each finalist had a great idea and it was a close call, they all have their merits.”

Guest speakers included Davina Wells - Executive Director of Brighton Racecourse, Mike Weatherley – MP for Hove, Mike Holland - entrepreneur and owner of the World of Engineering, Henry Rogers aged just 16 of Hot Iron and Sam French of Sam’s Kitchen – previous winners of the project.

The other finalists and runners up of the initiative were:

Chloe Meineck a graduate from University of Brighton, whose business is a Music Memory Box which is customisable and filed with a person’s favourite objects with aims to stimulate and aid those with dementia.

Mel Haagman and Rae MacMaster with their business called SymbolEyez which aims to equip teachers, parents and children with stories written in symbols that enable children to feel embowered during the learning to read process.

William Sudan – a former student of City College has created a business called White Eyebrow – a brand that intends to be ‘the first to market’ with a healthy tea beverage developed to revolutionise the tea industry and its drinking culture and offers a unique blend of organic herb and fruit tea cordials.

Ricardo Mwe-Di-Malila – a current student of City College who runs a business called Treble and Base which provides music workshops for under 18 year olds to aid multi-level development through creative release to develop and encourage their skills.

The finalists all previously presented to a Dragon’s Den panel of judges which included Karim Mohamed – Partner at Mayo Wynne Baxter Solicitors, Dan Simpson – Partner of Hartley Fowler Accountants, Chris Baker – Director of Economic and Social Engagement at University of Brighton, Andrew Hookway – MD of Extech, Lorraine Nugent - MD of Media Word Waves, Ben James – Senior reporter at The Argus and Mike Holland – Entrepreneur and property developer. The whole process was filmed at City College and shown at the showcase event to an audience of approx. 200.

During the show Mike Holland offered to invest and help Chloe to further develop her business.

Mike commented “Natalie is a very worthy winner. I think whatever happens she will go a long way and will make a success of whatever she does a very talented lady. When I saw Chloe's idea and the passion that she has for her invention I felt it was worthy of an investment. I am interested whether she accepts me or not!”

Previous participants of Young Start-up Talent have gone onto grow their business from strength to strength with runners up gaining some fantastic contacts to help grow and develop their own businesses.
