Young blacksmith Henry Rogers attends international symposium

by South East PR agency Media Word Waves

Henry Rogers winner of the Gatwick Diamond entrepreneurial initiative ‘Young Start-up Talent’ 2014 with his blacksmithing business ‘Hot Iron’, has just returned from a four day International Symposium of the Forge held in Normandy, France.

Organised by the Institute for Training and Research for the Crafts of Metals, in Seine-Maritime, the event welcomed over 50 professionals including Blacksmiths, Cutlers and Coppersmiths from all over the world.

Henry, aged 17, was one of only 4 UK blacksmiths invited to attend this four day event, reserved for professionals to showcase their skills, exchange ideas and for apprentices to come to learn, perfect their skills and meet fellow blacksmiths from all over the world.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time in France and feel privileged to have been invited to attend this symposium.  I learnt different skills from forging in iron, bronze and copper.  I am now able to expand my product range to further encompass my newly learnt skills such as copper bangles which so far are proving very popular.  The knowledge I gained was priceless.”

Henry Rogers who is running his business ‘Hot Iron’ from a workshop in his parents garden whilst also studying ‘A’ levels at Sackville School in East Grinstead has continued to impress the sponsors and the team at Young Start-up Talent with his talents not only in his creative blacksmithing skills but also in business.

Henry recently exhibited at an exhibition in Hastings with sponsors ‘Let’s Do Business’ where guests and other exhibitors where impressed and amazed by Henry. Henry received orders for his metal work with jewellery made out of recycled cutlery proving popular with much interest in his new copper bracelets. Henry often receives bespoke orders and is currently working on some signage for a pub.
